ALPHA - Lifelong Learning for everyone in Europe
During the last century, between 1900 and 1960, human knowledge doubled every 40 years. As of 1970, scientists and philosophers began to talk about a global society of knowledge. The growth of human knowledge speeded up. The time it took to double human knowledge decreased to 20 years and was noted to be 10 years at the end of the last century. Today, in the 21st century, human knowledge doubles every three years.
The European Union is one of the world?s leading regions of knowledge. Learning, the acquisition of knowledge, no longer ends when leaving school or university. Lifelong learning had become the key challenge for a European Union of Knowledge.
Between 2007 and 2013, the European Commission will provide about 7 billion Euro to support lifelong learning. Special attention is given to vocational training and adult education. Europe is a region of knowledge and a region of lifelong learning. All supportive programmes help to improve the quality of learning, the attractiveness of learning content and the access to learning provision in all member states.
Alpha-Beta offers new innovative learning materials for adults facing illiteracy or with problems in reading and writing.
